Creating Server Backups Made Easy

A secure server backup for the hopefully never-occurring worst-case scenario was and is the duty of every system administrator. As internet connection speeds have increased rapidly in recent years, cloud backup for your server backups has become an increasingly attractive option.

Advantages of Cloud Backup for Servers:

  • The backup is stored externally, thus meeting fundamental backup requirements
  • Costs are transparent and you only pay for what you need
  • Licenses and software are included in the price, including updates
  • You can manage backups centrally through a web-based administration interface
  • Restores can be initiated via remote maintenance
  • You can grant your employees their own user rights for creating and monitoring their server backups
  • Email notifications inform about the status of backups
  • Bare-metal restore possible (i.e., restoration of the entire system to a new machine)

To create a server backup with Backup ONE, follow these steps: Create an account and log in to your backup administration portal (shown in figure). Here you can download and install the backup client for your server operating system. The client will automatically connect to the administration portal. Now you can create a backup of your server, depending on what exactly you want to include in the backup.

A Server Backup Offers Many Options:

  • Backup of the entire server (full backup, virtual or physical machine)
  • Backup of individual drives
  • Backup of individual folders and files

The full backup, meaning a backup of the entire server, requires the most storage space but has a decisive advantage: You can restore the entire server (physical or virtual) to a new machine and get it up and running in no time, since the complete operating system is included in the server backup.
Once the server backup is set up, you can monitor the status of each backup job through the administration interface.

Restore from Server Backup

When a file or the entire image from the server backup is needed, the advantages of cloud backup come into full effect: You can download the entire backup or individual files from it, regardless of your location. The data from the backup can either be restored remotely to the source machine, or you can download the entire backup set and use the data as needed.

Restore Options from Server Backup:

  • Download of individual files from a backup
  • Download of the entire backup set
  • Remote restore of the backup (the still running server pulls the corresponding files to a defined location)
  • Bare-metal restore of an image to a new machine
  • V2P or P2V restore (virtual machine to physical and vice versa)
