macOS: Grant access permissions retroactively

In recent versions of macOS, explicit permissions must be granted to the backup agent to read data from the hard drive. Normally, these permissions are added during the installation of the Backup ONE Agent and don’t need to be modified. In some cases, these permissions may be missing or get removed, requiring them to be granted again for the backup to function smoothly.

If you want to grant access permissions to the Cyber Protect Agent afterwards, please proceed as follows. Find the «Cyber Protect Agent Assistant» program on your Mac and run it. The program can be found on your Mac in the /Applications/Utilities folder.

The Backup ONE Cyber Protection Agent Assistant

You can find the Assistant under /Applications/Utilities

Note: If this utility is not present on your Mac, it’s because you have an older version installed. In this case, please log in at https://portal.backup.ch and download the latest version for Mac and start the installation.

How to add the necessary permissions

  1. Launch the «Cyber Protect Agent Assistant» utility on your Mac
  2. Open the Security window on your Mac and select the Privacy sub-item (click on the blue button, see screenshot).
  3. Click on the lock icon in the bottom left to allow changes.
  4. Now drag the white icon (with the Lego piece) with your mouse to the Security window to add the authorized programs.
  5. Done. The required helpers will now be automatically added and the backup of your data can proceed.
