🌱 myClimate – Together for Climate Protection

myClimate (headquartered in Zurich) is internationally recognized as a leading address for effective climate protection. Shaping the Earth's future together with strong partners, supportive consulting and educational offerings, and own projects – that's the goal pursued by myClimate as a non-profit organization.

Backup ONE, along with numerous other renowned references, belongs to the foundation's circle of supporters. Specifically, this means that we offset 100% of all unavoidable emissions and thereby additionally support various climate protection projects:

Numbers and Facts

  • Compensated amount of CO2: 14,167t
  • Supported portfolio: International projects
  • Project standards: Gold Standard VER, Gold Standard CER, Certified emission reductions, Verified emission reductions, Plan Vivo
  • Support of UN Sustainable Development Goals

All information about the compensated CO2 amount and all projects we support as a company can be viewed on Backup ONE's overview page on myClimate.org.

How Does CO2 Compensation Work?

CO2 knows no national borders. Therefore, climate protection is possible anywhere in the world. This fact makes CO2 compensation a simple and effective instrument. Somewhere in the world, CO2 is offset in the amount of our emissions. This works through special (climate protection) projects, like those by myClimate, which must be conducted and implemented according to specific criteria. To make CO2 emissions scalable, a special certificate system is used. Each certificate corresponds to a specific amount of CO2 (1 ton CO2). The amount of certificates that can be generated through a climate protection project is determined or calculated according to certain standards and procedures.

Shaping the Future with myClimate

With highest quality projects, myclimate drives measurable climate protection and sustainable development worldwide. The voluntary compensation of CO₂ emissions currently takes place in more than 144 climate protection projects in 41 countries. The projects meet the highest standards (Gold Standard, Plan Vivo) and, in addition to reducing greenhouse gases, demonstrably make a positive local and regional contribution to sustainable development.

Through action-oriented and interactive educational offerings, myclimate encourages everyone to contribute to our future. With this goal, more than 25,000 students and 10,000 learners have already been reached in Switzerland, and a global network of 1,600 students and young professionals has been established.

Since the foundation's inception, the climate protection projects have created thousands of jobs, protected biodiversity, and improved the general living conditions of hundreds of thousands of people. For these reasons among others, the German Federal Environment Agency explicitly highlights the foundation as a provider for voluntary CO₂ compensation. In both 2015 and 2012, two myclimate projects each were named "Game Changing Climate Lighthouse Activities" by the UN Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC) Secretariat and were personally honored by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon at the UN Climate Conferences in Paris and Doha. Furthermore, the myclimate education project "Klimalokal" won the Milestone Award in 2012, the highest distinction in Swiss tourism. In May 2016, myclimate was awarded the Swiss Sustainability Prize "PrixEco".
