Overview Acronis Cyber Appliance

The Acronis Cyber Appliance is a cost-effective, multifunctional storage solution built for block-, file- and object-based storage workloads (backup, NFS, S3). It includes pre-installed Acronis Cyber Infrastructure, deployed on a cluster of 5 servers (5 nodes).

High Availability

Five independent server nodes per appliance (server chassis) ensure that you remain operational even if one of the components fails. The nodes of the appliances can be combined into a cluster.

Reliability

Erasure coding schemes ensure high data integrity through redundancy, using 3+2 protection by default. Other schemes are possible depending on the number of nodes in the cluster.

Security

The ability to encrypt storage drives (D@RE, Data-at-Rest Encryption) and the availability of role-based access controls also ensure that the security of stored data is guaranteed.

Scalability

When you need to add more resources, you can easily expand your cluster with an additional Acronis Cyber Appliance. Anytime and with minimal effort.

Appliance Specifications (as of March 2021)

  • An appliance consists of five integrated nodes arranged side by side
    • Specifications per node:
      • 1x 16-Core CPU (= 80 cores per appliance)
      • 32 GB RAM (= 160 GB RAM per appliance)
      • 1x SSD for the operating system (= 5 system SSDs per appliance)
      • 1x SSD for data caching (= 5 caching SSDs per appliance)
      • 3x HDD for storage (= 15 HDDs per appliance)
      • 2x 10 GbE RJ45 and 2x 10 GbE SFP+ (=10x 10GbE RJ45 + 10x 10 GbE SFP per appliance)
  • An appliance is 3U/3HE high
  • Each appliance has 2 power supplies for 2 power circuits
  • Storage capacities:
    • 60 TB (31 TB usable with 3+2 erasure coding)
    • 120 TB (62 TB usable with 3+2 erasure coding)
    • 150 TB (78 TB usable with 3+2 erasure coding)
    • 180 TB (93 TB usable with 3+2 erasure coding)
    • 210 TB (108 TB usable with 3+2 erasure coding)
    • 240 TB (124 TB usable with 3+2 erasure coding)
  • Erasure Coding levels:
    • The erasure coding depends on the available number of nodes
    • 3+2 (min. 5 nodes or 1 appliance required)
    • 7+2 (min. 9 nodes or 2 appliances required)
    • 17+3 (min. 20 nodes or 4 appliances required)
  • Handling high utilization
    • 75% utilization: Cluster expansion is recommended from 75% storage usage to accommodate future workloads.
    • 80% utilization: Write speed is throttled to gain more time for expansion.
    • 95% utilization: The appliance or cluster is set to read-only mode to prevent a lock due to full utilization.
    • Of course, we always inform our customers well in advance about the available remaining capacity and the expected time until reaching 75%, 80%, and 95% utilization.
