Initial backup via USB hard drive: Initial Seeding is optimal for uploading large initial backups despite slow internet connections.
Initial Seeding is available for Windows and Linux machines. Initial Seeding is not available for Mac OS X computers or application backup instances (MSSQL, Outlook, Office365 etc.).
With Initial Seeding, you can secure large amounts of data to your cloud backup account despite limited upload capacity of your internet connection by sending us a hard drive with the initial backup by mail. We then upload your first backup directly to the backup servers while you can perform regular (incremental) backups.
Select your USB hard drive as the storage destination.
Save the backup plan and execute it.
Important: DO NOT delete the created Initial Seeding backup plan. This is needed to assign the backup set sent via USB hard drive. If you delete the Initial Seeding backup plan, a new Initial Seeding must be initiated.
Backup ONE Initial Seeding supports USB hard drives (all manufacturers) with FAT32 or NTFS file systems. If you want to use other hard drive types (SATA, eSATA), please contact us.
Whenever possible, use the original packaging. If you don’t have it at hand, try to pack the hard drive wrapped in packaging material in a sturdy cardboard box. Please include your postal address so we can return the hard drive after the upload.
Send the hard drive to our main address.
Once we receive the hard drive with the Initial Seeding backup, we upload the data directly to our Swiss cloud storage servers. After the upload is complete, you will receive a notification to the email address associated with your account.
From now on, the backup will be performed as specified in the backup plan.
